The first task in the first semester was about creating a closed object, which could be unfolded. It has to be made of corrugated cardboard. We should focus on the proportions and the impact on the room. Is it big or small, lightweight or heavy, does it stand or seem to hover or even jump. I decided on doing a triangular pyramid, inspired by the geodetic cupolas of Buckminster Fuller. To make the object tantalising I replaced some of the triangular pyramids with flat triangles. The next challenge was to give the object another dimension by changing its shape. We should choose between a method like turning, moving, folding or unfolding. My method was to move the triangular pyramids up and down. To make this happen I designed a construction, which moves the pyramids up and down by turning the object.
